Health authorities in New Caledonia now say dengue fever has struck more than 600 people.

They say the mosquito-borne disease is affecting mostly Poindimie in the north and Noumea.

The nearby French territory of Wallis and Futuna as well as parts of Queensland have also been hit by this year's dengue outbreak.
