The Cook Islands government has advised its residents to postpone travel until the SARS scare is over.

It has also asked those returning from infected countries, such as China and Canada, to spend seven to ten days in New Zealand before flying to Rarotonga, saying Auckland hospital would be better equipped to deal with cases of acute respiratory problems.

The government has cancelled China trips for two officials because of the SARS emergency.
