The dengue epidemic in New Caledonia has claimed two more lives, bringing the death toll of this year's outbreak to ten.

The latest to die were a child from the east coast of the main island and an adult who died in hospital in Noumea.

The authorities have warned that the epidemic, which began in January, is not over despite the weather getting cooler.

They say the risk will only be eliminated once all larvae of the disease-carrying mosquitoes are destroyed.
