Several leading current and former public servants are to contest this weekend's elections in Nauru.

Radio Australia reports that the former Chief Secretary, Mathew Batsuia, will contest the poll, along with the current head of the Foreign Affairs Department, Angie Itsimaera.

Another prominent female candidate is the former Health Secretary, Marleen Moses.

Mr Batsuia resigned his post last year in protest at what he says was a lack of commitment by the then Rene Harris led Government to economic and financial planning.
