Australia suspends some ammunition exports to Papua New Guinea

Australia has suspended some exports of ammunition to Papua New Guinea because of fears about what it might be used for.

The Australian High Commissioner said there's no blanket ban on ammunition exports to PNG, but that some are on hold as there are concerns that it might be used by unauthorised persons or for unauthorised purposes.

The issue was raised this week in PNG's Parliament by an MP worried people in his electorate were unable to buy shotgun cartridges for hunting.

Australia responded by saying its Department of Defence considers all applications to export defence goods on a case by case basis.
