The financially struggling health sector in Papua New Guinea has been warned that it will not receive increased funding in the near future.

The National reports the Health Secretary, Dr Nicholas Mann saying that there was no adequate funds available now or in the near future and that there was little choice but for the sector to live within it means.

During a health conference in Madang, Dr Mann, says the lack of funds was created by overplanning and overbudgeting by past administrations.

He told health managers and policy makers to prioritise spending and assess what is important and life saving against what is urgent.

Dr Mann says spending must match the level of resources available.
