The new Vanuatu police commissioner, Robert Diniro, has suspended the highest ranking woman in the force.
No details have been given of why Delphine Vuti was suspended along with 13 other officers.
A spokesman says the commissioner is, as he put it, determined to sweep the floor of the police as soon as possible before moving out into the community.
Commissioner Diniro has also introduced foot patrols in Port Vila, an intitiative welcomed by the business community.
