Samoan Ministry of Health approves SARS contingency plan

9:42 am on 17 May 2003

Samoa's cabinet has approved the Ministry of Health Contingency Plan for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, or SARS, for those entering the country.

And, preventative measures should SARS infect the country.

The measures include: stopping all travel to and from areas affected by SARS; enforcing the quarantine of all passengers from SARS affected areas before they travel through Samoa; and the quarantine of all health workers exposed to SARS.

A building for isolating SARS cases is being considered, as well as health insurance policies covering all health personnel who are involved with, and exposed to, any SARS case.
