The ANZ Banking group in Fiji has shut down its Gold Mastercard system after it was hit by an international credit card fraud scheme on Wednesday night.
The Fiji Times quotes ANZ's Fiji manager, John Velegrinis, as saying there was a host of frenetic activity internationally using Fiji card numbers and various attempts were made to get through to their system.
The fraud attempt on Fiji followed similar attacks on bank computers in Australia and New Zealand.
Mr Velegrinis says it's not clear at this stage how long it will take to reactivate their system but banks throughout the South Pacific have been told what pattern to watch for.
It's understood Classic and Gold Mastercard credit card numbers in Papua New Guinea are also being targetted.
