A British accountant who was gang-raped during a business trip to Solomon Islands is suing her bosses for more than one point six million US dollars for sending her to the strife-torn nation.

The 41 year old woman was attacked by five men armed with knives and machetes after they broke into her apartment in April 2000 - two months before a coup toppled the Government.

The Daily Mail newspaper says the woman has lodged a writ in the High Court in London accusing her employers, an international telecommunications group, of negligence.

She says the company should have warned her about the lawlessness gripping the country and failed to provide her with safe accommodation or a security guard.
