PNG police commissioner condemns police attack on provincial headquarters

The Papua New Guinea police commissioner, Sam Inguba, has condemned the actions of six policemen in Wabag who assaulted a senior public servant over the non-payment of allowances.

Local media reported an armed siege that took place at the Enga provincial headquarters on Tuesday.

The Post Courier said public servants were left in a state of panic, shock and confusion as six fully armed police took over the centre.

Mr Inguba says the policemen should have gone through the proper channels of command to have their grievances rectified.

Mr Inguba says the policemen will be investigated, but he says newspaper reports of the protest were exaggerated and false.
