Family of 12 year old Samoan girl facing drugs charges attacked

The father of the 12-year old girl caught allegedly trying to smuggle nine bags of marijuana to American Samoa is in hospital in Apia in Samoa after being beaten.

The Samoa Observer reports police says the man was beaten up near Salelavalu village on Savai'i.

The man's wife Fa Afoa Viavia has been charged with the unlawful supply of narcotics.

Their daughter Telesia was arrested at Fagali'i International Airport after nine bags were found allegedly strapped to her body.

Both Fa and Telesia are remanded on bail.
