Freed Solomons hostages refuse comment on their ordeal

11:09 am on 8 July 2003

The four Melanesian Brothers who were released by Harold Keke at the weekend have remained silent to protect other members of the Order still being held hostage.

Dorothy Wickham reports.....

"The head of the Melanesian Brothers Order of the Church of Melanesia, Brother Harry Gereniu, says they don't want to comment because members of the Order are still on the Weather Coast of Guadalcanal. He revealed however, that Keke has given assurances that the six brothers who were taken in April are safe. Brother Gereniu said of the seven who were captured some three weeks ago, four were released but three are still with Keke. One of the three left is from Papua New Guinea. He is Brother Ruben Lence who has been with the Order for nineteen years. Keke has promised to release more when the situation in the remote area improves."
