PNG Cabinet reshuffle says seven new Ministers

4:10 pm on 4 August 2003

The Papua New Guinea prime minister, Sir Michael Somare, has dumped four ministers from Cabinet in a move to placate coalition partners in the government.

Seven new ministers, including five first-timers, have been added to the Cabinet in the weekend reshuffle.

The changes are the first since the Somare government came into office 12 months ago and Sir Michael says there will not be another for a long time.

Sir Michael's son Arthur Somare is one of the new faces, taking the new State Enterprises and Information portfolio.
