Fiji's Chaudhry wants intervention over constitutional stand-off

Fiji's deposed prime minister, Mahendra Chaudhry, has called for regional intervention in his country, which is in political limbo amid a widening constitutional crisis involving the current premier's cabinet.

On July the 18th Supreme Court issued a judgment ordering Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase to include in his cabinet members of Mr Chaudhry's Fiji Labour Party.

This followed a two-year period during which Mr Qarase fought his case in the courts.

In a paper sent to the Forum summit, Mr Chaudhry says the crisis in Solomon Islands is resulting in positive intervention and he asks for no less for Fiji.
