Samoa Air is informing passengers in Pago Pago that it will be suspending services after September the 7th.

Although there has not been a public announcement from the airline, groups which had booked flights to Apia said they were nformed by Samoa Air staff that they should make alternative arrangements.

A Samoa Air executive said that an official statement would be issued when the Chief Executive Officer, Andre Lavigne, returned from overseas today.

The airline has reportedly be unable to secure the necessary funding to lease or purchase another aircraft.

Its biggest hopes rested on a bailout from the American Samoan government, but so far the response has not been encouraging.

If the airline fails it will put 60 people out of work.
