A government member of the French Polynesian territorial assembly, Henri Flohr, has offered his resignation almost a year after failing in his appeal to overturn a suspended jail sentence.
The president of the assembly, Lucette Taero, says the move allows her to give the seat to the next on the list of the ruling Tahoeraa Huiraatira Party, Victor Doom.
Meanwhile, Ms Taero and the French high commissioner in Papeete, Michel Mathieu, are to appear in court in November on abuse of power allegations for failing to strike Mr Flohr of the list of MPs after his conviction.
He had been allowed to stay as a voting member of the assembly although a court had deprived him of his civic rights.
