NZ police looking favourably at Fiji request for assistance

3:37 pm on 9 September 2003

The New Zealand police say they are looking favourably at a request by Fiji police for assistance in completing investigations into the 2000 coup.

The police commissioner asked for a senior police officer to be sent to Fiji so that the investigations can be as transparent as possible.

Superintendent Rob Pope says a decision will be made shortly.

"We are favourably considering that request, at the moment we're just working through the mechanics of the request and we hope very very shortly to be able to advise the Fijian police of our decision."
