Fiji police believe they have cracked a ring responsible for the flood of counterfeit currency found in circulation this year.

They have arrested a polytechnic student who was found in possession of equipment to produce counterfeit notes.

Police have also arrested a bank officer who helped put the counterfeit currency into circulation by exchanging them for genuine notes.

Both men have been charged and are expected to appear in court soon.

Well over a hundred counterfeit currency notes, mostly of a fifty dollar denomination, have been reported in the last six months with many coming out of automatic teller machines.
