American Samoa is among fourteen states and territories which have received grants from the US Department of Health and Human Services to reduce drug, alcohol and tobacco use among children, youths and young adults.

The 238 thousand US dollar grant will be used to develop a comprehensive substance abuse prevention and early intervention strategy for the territory.

This will target children aged 12 to 15 who have not yet begun to use alcohol or drugs.

It will also support the territory in developing the capacity and infrastucture needed to compete for a full three year State Incentive Grant.
