Police in the Cook Islands consider drug charges for students at the national college

Police in the Cook islands are considering whether to arrest students at the country's national college on drug charges.

An investigation was launched late last month after a student wrote to Keri Herman, the principal of Tereora College alleging drugs were being sold at the school.

The Deputy Police Commissioner, Maara Tetava, says prosecutions are one option being looked at by police, but he says this depends on whether those involved are over the age of 16.

Most of the pupils involved are said to be from junior classes.

The college principal says the school is still waiting for a report from police.
