The file on Fiji's former police commissioner, Colonel Isikia Savua, remains open as investigations continue into his alleged involvement in the coup.

Police spokesperson, Mesake Koroi, says the New Zealand police officers who are being sent to Suva, will take a look at that file, as well as others connected to the coup.

Mr Koroi says it's useful to have an extra pair of eyes look at such files.

"The new commissioner has the file on the inquiry that was conducted by former Chief Justice Tuivaga on Savua and he is going through that and this is why we had thought that perhaps we could ask for assistance from New Zealand police for someone to be dispatched to Fiji to have a look at these files again before we do any final charges"
