Nine scientists from French Polynesia and New Caledonia have begun a study on the atoll of Tikehau to assess the impact of fishing on the environment.

The two-week study in the Tuamotu atoll is to determine how the Polynesians use the marine resources and what effect this has on the environment.

The study will take two weeks and ties in with the mission of the IRD institute to examine links between humans and the marine environment.
