The acting vice chancellor of the University of the South Pacific, Rajesh Chandra, says he believes aid donors are willing to help establish a campus in the Solomon Islands capital, Honiara.
Dr Chandra this could be achieved by extending the Solomon Islands College of Higher Education.
He says the cost of establishing the facilities would need to be met by the Solomons government or its aid donors, who seem to be supportive.
Dr Chandra, who was in Honiara last month, says the donors agree that the rebuilding of the country will require extensive human resource development.
"and that the cost of that human resource development would be lower if was provided in Solomon Islands and I have a feeling hta the donors would come together if a sensible proposal was put prepared."
The Solomon Islands cabinet is expected to consider the proposal this week.
