American Samoa appeals for public to conserve water

2:04 pm on 15 October 2003

The American Samoan Power Authority is asking the public to conserve water with signs of a drought on its way.

Rainfall for last month was much lower than normal and it's predicted that October will be even dryer.

The ASPA has launched a public awareness campaign and a spokesperson says home owners are being asked to check on leaking taps, not to water plants, yards or wash the car.

The authority is also asking organisations to refrain from holding car washes to fundraise until the water situation has improved.

The dry conditions are also being experienced in Fiji and Samoa.
