Polynesians to seek extension of American Samoa service

11:06 am on 17 October 2003

Polynesian Airlines has applied for an extension to its temporary licence to fly a domestic service in American Samoa.

The exemption from the cabotage rules allows Polynesian to run a service between Tutuila and Manu'a until October the 23rd.

This was granted because the territory's carrier Samoa Air has its only aircraft in mandatory maintenance which left the Manu'a group without an air link.

The territory's government has so far not subsidised Polynesian Airlines for the service although the government approved financial support for the carrier.
