Solomons PM leavves for Hawaii after visa problem

12:17 pm on 23 October 2003

The Solomon Islands prime minister, Sir Allan Kemakeza, says he will leave Brisbane for Hawaii this morning, to meet US president George Bush after earlier complications with his visa.

Sir Allan had been stranded in Australia, due to an embarrassing protocol gaffe.

He had left the Solomons last week but had been unable to continue his planned journey to Hawaii because he did not have a valid visa.

Sir Allan was reportedly furious with officials who made his initial travel arrangements although he now says the problem has been sorted out.

One source close to the PM's delegation says it is likely that Sir Allan will deal severely with those responsible for his arrangements upon his return.
