PNG MP and TV crew robbed

8:44 am on 12 November 2003

A Papua New Guinea MP, who has been robbed, has called for an automatic teller machine and a post office to be installed in parliament so politicians could safely do business.

The news agency AAP reports that Tony Aimo made the call after he was robbed at gunpoint of his car and other valuables.

Within minutes of the robbery, Mr Aimo rang the local television station who came and interviewed him about it in his parliamentary office.

But the interview never got to air because a different gang of armed robbers stole the crew's vehicle, together with the tripod and video camera containing the interview.
