The US Homeland Security Department has announced that America Samoa is to be given 5-point-8 million US dollars in grants to improve security.

Per capita the sum is almost 20 times larger than the funding offered to the state of New York which was worst affected by terrorist attacks in 2001.

The funding is released on the basis of a formula which guarantees a minimum sum to each state or territory.
