The president of Fiji's powerful Methodist Church says homosexuals should be stoned to death.

The Daily Post reports that the Rev Laisiasa Ratabacaca was commenting on the ordination of the first openly homosexual bishop in the Anglican Church.

The Methodist leader says Christianity is opposed to homosexuals and it is absolutely unacceptable to have them as priests

The Rev Ratabacaca says homosexuals are a threat to the very existence of human beings on the planet as they cannot reproduce.

He says what has happened in the Anglican Church is outrageous and he for one looks down on the church..

Representatives of the Anglican Church in Fiji were meeting last night amid fears that it could split over the issue

Fiji's homosexual community has welcomed the ordination saying the move could signal acceptance, but it also fears that some people will use it to generate hate towards them.
