The Marshall Islands high court has rejected a request by the mayor of Majuro, Mudge Samuel, for a restraining order to halt the mayoral election on November the 17th.
Mr Samuel filed a motion to stop the electoral administration from holding the election after he was barred from running for the post again.
This follows a ruling that Mr Samuel was no longer eligible because of a serious conviction and a provision in the Majuro Atoll constitution banning mayoral candidates with a criminal record.
His lawyer had argued that atoll constitution was not a true constitution but what he called a default constitution.
