Fiji police find no evidence of body parts traffickers

Fiji police believe that mass hysteria could be responsible for claims that a group of body parts traffickers may be operating in the country's west.

They have sent a psychologist to talk to the young people in Lautoka and Ba who claimed that they were abducted or attempts were made to snatch them.

Police commissioner, Andrew Hughes, says investigations tying up a lot of resources have found nothing to substantiate the stories given by at least five teenagers.

He says there were discrepancies in their stories, some common themes running through them and one boy has since withdrawn his story.

Mr Hughes says matters are getting out of hand and has warned that giving false information to police is a criminal offence
