A nation wide drive to raise funds for much needed hospital equipment is underway in Tonga.

As part of Hospital Week 2003, the Vaiola Hospital Board of Visitors, has already collected nearly three and a half thousand US dollars, but hopes to raise nearly 30 thousand.

The money is coming through donations from government, churches and the private sector, along with barbecues, a bazaar and a nurses and doctors walkathon.

The Board said the proceeds will be used to supplement the hospital's most urgent needs.

Funds raised last year were used to buy a sterilizer and a heart monitor.
