One of three Fijian soldiers injured in a bomb blast in Iraq this week has been flown to a US military hospital in Germany.

Lance Corporal Malakai Waqawai was the most seriously wounded of the three when a bomb was detonated under a convoy of vehicles escorting the new Iraqi currency north of Baghdad.

Corporal Caucau Balemairewa is still in hospital in Iraq while Corporal Taito Ilaisa has been treated for his injuries and has resumed duty.

They are part of a group of 519 reserve force soldiers who are performing security duties in Iraq under private contract to the British company, Global Risk Strategies.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Sun newspaper quotes the Home Affairs minister, Joketani Cokanasiga, as saying the government remains committed to sending a battalion of regular troops to Iraq in February next year.
