The American Samoa government has approved the business licences for an Hawaii based business, Safari Aviation Inc, to operate domestic cargo and passenger flights under the name of Safari Pacific Airways.
The company still needs US Federal Aviation Administration approval to launch the service between the territory's main island of Tutuila and Manu'a Island group.
Safari's President, Preston S. Myers, says the company is actively negotiating for the purchase of a aircraft for operations in Pago Pago.
It plans to relocate one of its helicopters from Hawaii to use for air tours, search and rescue and medical evacuations.
