New Zealand rugby's coach of the year, Wayne Pivac, has dismissed reports he is in line to become Fiji's new national coach.

The Daily Post newspaper reported Pivac is considering the Fiji position, subject to developments with the vacant All Black coaching job.

But Mr Pivac, who has been touted as a possible assistant to Graham Henry should he become the next All Black coach, says the report is unfounded.

He says a journalist misconstrued comments he made during an address in a prize-giving ceremony at Nadi Muslim College, also attended by Fiji Prime Minister, Laisenia Qarase.

Pivac says the Auckland Rugby Union, which is involved with the college through its academy system, was awarding 8 contracts to young sportsmen.

He says that he hasn't made a decision on his future plans, but will see what pans out over the next few months in New Zealand before deciding.
