New Vanuatu speaker calls for unity to help investment

Vanuatu's new parliamentary speaker Roger Abiut has called for unity to attract investment.

Mr Abiut was elected unanimously to replace Henri Taga.

At the age of 31, he is the youngest person in Vanuatu's history to hold such a high position.

Mr Abiut says his selection shows the country needs young people and unity.

"We have seen many major political parties split, so we, the young people today, the young members of parliament, we don't want this kind of attitude, because we saw how that had destabilized our government many many times and it scares our investors."
