Solomon Islands police say prime minister not under investigation

11:34 am on 23 December 2003

Police in Solomon Islands say they are not investigating the prime minister, Sir Allen Kemakeza, despite reports to the contrary.

The acting director of the CID, David Bale, says although there has been speculation in the media, no official complaints have been laid.

And, Mr Bale says it is not true that the PM is being investigated by the police.

"So far, since I sit in this office as the director of CID, I haven't received any report yet from anyone about the prime minister, Sir Allen Kemakeza. There are a lot of rumours going around, especially in the media, about him. We have yet to establish those rumours if official reports come in."

David Bale says the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands, or RAMSI, hasn't informed the police about any investigations into the prime minister either.
