American Samoan flight to pick up sick person delayed

2:07 pm on 24 December 2003

A Polynesian Airlines plane was enroute to Manu-a from Pago Pago to pick up a sick passenger but turned back after Inter-Island airways said it could go.

Polynesian manager, Vaitoa Hans Lagnkilde, said a sick passenger on Ofu island need to be brought to Tutuila for treatment, and they had offered to do that because the Inter-Island plane had had engine problems.

But, Inter-Island Airways says the Dornier plane was ready to fly after the problems had been fixed.

A spokesperson for the airline says they hope to catch up on the backlog from the cancellation of yesterday's flights to Manu'a as soon as possible.
