An Australian patrol boat has rescued 13 fishermen whose boat ran aground about 200 nautical miles north of the Solomon Islands capital, Honiara.

The Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands, or RAMSI, launched the rescue mission after a request from the Solomon Islands Maritime Rescue Centre.

HMAS Cessnock rescued nine Taiwanese and four Vietnamese on board the Pacific Tarker which was chartered to the Solomon Islands Fish and Tuna Company.

All the crew are said to be in good health.
