The total number of visitor arrivals to the Cook Islands this year look set to top record figures achieved two years ago.

Statistics compiled by the Cook Islands Tourism Corporation to the end of October showed 65,054 people visited the country.

That's two thousand more than the corresponding period in 2001.

The increase is attributed to three airlines flying into the country and cruise ships that arrive every couple of weeks.

Tourists from New Zealand and Europe are the top visitors to the Cook Islands.
