Samoan government officials are travelling to Savai'i from the capital, Apia, to assess damage following Cyclone Heta.
The vice- Chairman of the National Disaster Council, Va'asatia Poloma Komiti, said the Australian government had already offered around thirty thousand US dollars to be used for relief purposes.
Government workers have begun restoring damaged roads, water and electricity supplies.
Most of the roads were made inaccessible by high waves, which also dumped rocks and other debris.
Water supplies to most of Upolu are back on, except in areas which rely on electrical pumps.
Only businesses with their own generators are open in Apia today
