A five-member team of experts from India has begun a review of Fiji's ailing sugar industry.
The Sugar Technology Mission is studying milling efficiency, financial management, transport costs and improving the quality of cane.
The mission leader, Jeewan Bhagat says India, which produces 400-million tonnes of sugar cane a year, has already been through a restructure and the experience would be of relevance to Fiji.
The new study comes just as the prime minister, Laisenia Qarase, has announced that his top priority this year would be to save the sugar industry.
