Police in French Polynesia have arrested three people after detaining nine people in breaking up a suspected counterfeiting ring.

Police in Papeete say the group used forged notes to buy cannabis in various island groups which they then sold on.

The group used computers, scanners and printers to forge notes of 5-thousand and ten-thousand French Pacific Francs.

According to the investigators, they circulated about 100-thousand US dollars worth of fake notes.
