EU agreement brings millions of dollars in aid to the Pacifc

The signing of four financial agreements between the European Union and the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat will see the region receiving about twelve million US dollars in aid for agriculture, fisheries, and economic programmes.

The EU Commissioner, Poul Nielson, said the aid was a tribute to the quality of agreed works in the past.

The agreement, signed over the weekend, includes the regional coastal fisheries development programme, the development of sustainable agriculture in the Pacific and a plant protection programme.

Mr Nielson says the prime focus of the programme is capacity building.
