Fiji police say they believe there could be up to 200 home made guns in illegal circulation in the country's northern division.

Police spokesman, Mesake Koroi, gave the figure to Fiji TV after officers arrested two men for selling home made guns in Vanua Levu.

Both men are under interrogation at the Labasa police station.

The matter came to light when a man complained that a home made gun he had bought for 175 Us dollars had been stolen, allegedly by the seller.

The trail led to a village in Macuata Province where police found the gun buried at a farm and arrested two men.

The weapon has been sent to Suva for tests.

Meanwhile, the army has confirmed that 13 of the military weapons used during the May 2000 coup are still missing from its armoury.
