Fiji police have discovered enough powerful explosives to demolish a large structure like the main Government Buildings in downtown Suva.

The discovery comes at the end of a week when threats were made against the Government Buildings.

The prime minister, other cabinet ministers, the chief justice and hundreds of public servants had to be evacuated after a telephoned bomb threat.

The police spokesman, Mesake Koroi says the explosives were found by a 70 year old farmer in a rural area of Tailevu.

The explosives were manufactured by Orica Explosives Technology of Australia but the company's Fiji branch, which makes paints and chemicals, denies importing or distributing explosives.
