Solomon Islands to build two permanent overseas missions

2:51 pm on 2 March 2004

The Solomon Islands government is to build two permanent High Commissions in Canberra and Port Moresby.

Solomons prime minister, Sir Allan Kemakeza, who has been visiting the Australian capital, has been shown a site the Australian government has given to Solomon Islands.

Sir Allan says his government needs to build in Canberra because of rising rental costs.

He says it is for the same reason that a new commission will be built in Port Moresby.

The prime minister says the Papua New Guinea government has identified a suitable site and the Honiara government will use part of its PNG grant to build the new commission.
