Solomon Islands committee to probe 2002 killing of 10 Malaitans

9:32 am on 10 March 2004

The Solomon Islands parliament has appointed a six-member bipartisan select committee to investigate the killing of ten Malaitans on Guadalcanal's weather coast in 2002.

The committee will have its first meeting today and is made up of three parliamentarians, a former politician, a church leader and a bank manager.

The committee was set up following moves by the East Kwaio MP, Alfred Sasako, who wants to have determined on whose behalf the ten men were sent to the weathercoast.

The men were killed by a local militant leader, Harold Keke, who has been in police custody for half a year.
