Production at Fiji's Vatukoula gold mine is reported to have gone up by 40 percent.

The Emperor Gold Mining Company's managing director, Greg Starr, has told Radio Fiji that their decision to invest another 53 million US dollars in mining operations is paying off handsomely.

Mr Starr says production went up in the last quarter of last year and the result in the first three months of this year has been excellent.

The company expects to increase production to a maximum of 180,000 ounces of gold by the end of this year.
